CRM HTML Designer/Developer

Upbound Group

Job Description

About the Company

Upbound Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: UPBD) is a technology and data-driven leader in accessible and inclusive financial solutions serving underserved customers. The company operates industry-leading brands including Acima, Brigit, and Rent-A-Center, facilitating consumer transactions across over 2,300 company-branded retail units and digital channels throughout the United States, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.

About the Role

As a CRM HTML Designer/Developer at Upbound Group, you'll own the end-to-end creation of retention messaging—from coding responsive, on-brand email templates to designing personalized customer journeys in their ESP/CDP platform. This is a mid-to-senior level, full-time position based in Plano, TX (in-office, Monday–Friday) where you'll combine beautiful design, bulletproof HTML/CSS, and smart data activation to lift opens, clicks, conversions, and retention. You'll be an ideal fit if you're a skilled email developer with 3–5+ years of experience, deep expertise in responsive email coding, and a passion for creating high-converting, pixel-perfect campaigns across 50+ email clients and devices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy high-quality, responsive email campaigns that render cleanly across 50+ clients and devices (desktop, mobile, webmail, including Outlook, Gmail, and Apple Mail).
  • Design and hand-code table-based, inline-styled HTML/CSS emails using mobile-first, fluid-hybrid techniques and media queries to ensure consistent rendering.
  • Test and QA at scale using Litmus, validating links, tracking, image weights, and fallbacks before every launch; partner with broader teams on cross-functional QC.
  • Personalize campaigns at scale with dynamic content and scripting (Liquid script in Zeta Marketing Platform); set up automations, triggers, and versioned content by audience or lifecycle stage.
  • Translate marketing briefs into intuitive, high-converting, on-brand visual hierarchies that guide subscribers toward primary calls-to-action (CTAs) using design expertise and UI/UX principles.
  • Maintain a modular design system with master templates and reusable components to ensure brand consistency and accelerate production.
  • Monitor campaign performance, A/B test design elements (subject lines, CTA color/size/placement, layout structure), and partner on reporting to inform iterations and cross-channel orchestration (email/SMS/push).
  • Collaborate across product, personalization, legal, development, CX, and data science teams to deliver cohesive customer experiences.
  • Use AI/GPT to draft copy for SMS, push notifications, and email, including subject lines and pre-headers.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of professional experience coding responsive, table-based HTML/CSS for email with rigorous cross-client QA and brand stewardship.
  • Deep familiarity with email-specific constraints (inline CSS, limited/unsupported properties, Outlook quirks) and proficiency in fluid-hybrid and mobile-first coding methods.
  • Hands-on ESP platform proficiency: campaign setup experience in Zeta, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Braze, Iterable, Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, or similar platforms.
  • Dynamic content scripting expertise (AMPscript, Liquid, or Velocity) and strong QA discipline using Litmus or Email on Acid for rendering verification.
  • Proficiency in design tools: Figma, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop/Illustrator), or comparable software to create pixel-perfect mockups before coding.
  • Strong collaboration and project management skills in a fast-paced environment managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Authorization to work for any employer in the U.S. (visa sponsorship is not available).

Nice to Have

  • Experience building and maintaining modular email systems (master templates, component libraries) with comprehensive documentation.
  • Working knowledge of deliverability drivers (image-to-text ratios, file size optimization) and practical spam-trigger avoidance strategies.
  • A/B and multivariate testing experience with ability to read performance dashboards and translate data insights into design improvements.
  • Experience creating lightweight animated assets (optimized GIFs/APNGs) and kinetic email patterns with progressive enhancement and safe fallbacks.
  • Familiarity with omni-channel orchestration concepts (email, SMS, push) and Customer Data Platform (CDP) fundamentals.
