About the Role

As Head of SEO, you'll be the senior delivery lead who transforms how this agency operates—stepping in to lead client calls, answer the strategic questions that project managers can't, and unblock the team so the founders can step out of day-to-day delivery. This is a fully remote, Director-level position perfect for an SEO leader who thrives on enabling others, crafting winning strategies, and being the trusted senior voice clients depend on. You'll work across multiple client engagements in parallel while keeping every project on track and results climbing.

Responsibilities

• Join client calls alongside project managers, answer strategic questions in real-time with confidence, and represent the agency as the senior delivery voice
• Maintain high-level visibility into project strategy, status, performance, and upcoming deliverables across multiple concurrent accounts
• Unblock project managers and client success managers by resolving strategy questions, technical challenges, and client pushback within the same day
• Develop creative SEO strategies when standard playbooks aren't delivering, then own them through execution and optimization
• Coach and enable the team by answering questions, raising quality standards, and helping PMs level up their delivery
• Take ownership of delivery decisions and escalations that currently route to the founders

Requirements

• Deep, current SEO expertise across technical, content, programmatic, and local search—with proven agency delivery leadership or in-house scale experience
• Real AI search knowledge: understand how ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Mode source and cite content, and how to improve brand visibility in these channels
• Proven track record being the trusted advisor on client calls—able to stay calm under pressure, admit gaps gracefully ("I don't know yet, here's how we'll find out"), and maintain client confidence
• Strong project and context management skills; able to run multiple engagements in parallel and switch between them efficiently
• Reliability and follow-through: when you commit to something, it gets done
• Leadership mindset: you'd rather make ten people better than do every task yourself
• Available for US Eastern business hours client calls (fully remote, office in NYC)

Nice to Have

• Experience working directly with or advising founders on agency operations and scaling delivery
• Published SEO or AI search expertise (content, speaking, tools)
