Job Description

About the Company

Webflow is the agentic web marketing platform for modern marketing teams, helping organizations build, manage, and optimize high-performing web experiences that drive predictable growth and strengthen brand trust. The company moves fast without sacrificing craft or quality, serving as a leader in the web development and marketing technology space.

About the Role

We're seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical future of Convert — Webflow's suite of products that empower marketing and growth teams to experiment, personalize, and drive revenue from their web presence. This remote-first position (United States; BC & ON, Canada) offers the opportunity to shape backend architecture and distributed systems at significant scale, working across experimentation, personalization, analytics, and conversion optimization. You'll influence engineering strategy across multiple teams and mentor senior engineers while building the foundational infrastructure that unlocks new product capabilities for years to come.

Responsibilities

  • Set the long-term technical vision and architecture for backend systems powering experimentation, personalization, analytics, and conversion optimization across Webflow
  • Architect and evolve high-throughput distributed systems and APIs that ingest, process, and serve large volumes of visitor and event data with low latency, high availability, and strong consistency guarantees
  • Lead foundational platform investments and data infrastructure that unlock new product capabilities
  • Partner with data scientists, ML engineers, and product engineers to productionize statistical and AI/ML capabilities into reliable, real-time backend infrastructure
  • Lead complex, multi-team, multi-quarter technical initiatives end-to-end from problem framing through implementation, launch, and operational ownership
  • Influence the engineering roadmap and technical strategy across the Convert pillar, identifying high-leverage investments and aligning teams
  • Raise the engineering bar through architecture review, technical standards, observability, and operational excellence practices
  • Mentor and grow staff and senior engineers, multiplying impact through people development and technical culture
  • Stay current with industry trends in distributed systems, experimentation platforms, real-time data, and AI/ML infrastructure
  • Translate product vision into concrete technical problems and execution plans

Requirements

  • BS/BA college degree or relevant software engineering experience
  • 12+ years of software engineering experience, including extensive expertise architecting and operating backend systems and distributed systems at significant scale
  • Strong technical foundation across multiple programming languages such as Python, Java, or Go, with deep fluency in modern frameworks, distributed systems patterns, and large-scale system design
  • Proven experience designing, building, and operating high-throughput, data-intensive distributed systems in production with deep understanding of scalability, fault tolerance, consistency tradeoffs, observability, and performance optimization
  • Demonstrated technical leadership across ambiguous, cross-pillar initiatives, influencing architecture, execution, and engineering strategy well beyond your immediate team
  • Ability to partner effectively with product, design, data science, and ML stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions
  • Strong judgment, clear communication with technical and executive audiences, and pragmatic decision-making ability

Benefits & Perks
