About the Role

We're seeking a Staff Brand Designer, Graphic & Web to join our central Design team and serve as the first dedicated hire for brand and visual design at SandboxAQ. Reporting to the VP of Design, you'll craft the vision of how SandboxAQ shows up across multiple mediums and execute it end-to-end—from strategy through hands-on production. This is an opportunity to build something from the ground up: there's no inherited brand practice and no team to delegate to, so your work directly becomes the company's visual identity. Based in the United States, you'll work with a lean, hands-on design team where every designer owns their work day-to-day across multiple business units.

Responsibilities

• Set the creative direction for the SandboxAQ brand and prove it through your work, establishing how the company shows up visually across all touchpoints.
• Design and build the SandboxAQ design system—visual identity, components, guidelines, and brand architecture for parent brand and six sub-brands spanning life sciences, chemistry, financial services, navigation, AI operations, and cybersecurity.
• Own sandboxaq.com end-to-end: design, build, ship, and maintain the corporate web presence in Webflow, working directly in the CMS rather than delegating specs.
• Produce high-craft design work yourself, including conference and event graphics, brochures, infographics, one-pagers, and executive materials that push the brand system forward.
• Build scalable design processes and resources—deck templates, brand kits, asset libraries, and repeatable workflows that enable cross-company self-service design without bottlenecking through you.
• Partner strategically across the company as a design leader, working with product designers, creative media, marketing, and go-to-market teams early in the problem-shaping phase rather than as a service desk.
• Brief and direct external partners on overflow or specialist work, holding the design standard across all outputs.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on experience crafting brand systems, graphic design, and web design.
• Hands-on fluency with a modern CMS or visual web platform such as Webflow, HTML/CSS, with proven ability to take a site from design through build, launch, and ongoing maintenance independently.
• Demonstrated experience building design systems or component libraries—brand kits, templates, asset libraries, or similar resources that non-designers genuinely adopted and used.
• Proven range with coherence: evidence of designing across visually distinct domains or audiences while maintaining a recognizable through-line, plus comfort with dense scientific and AI subject matter (LQMs, agentic systems, quantum-era security) and ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear visual designs.
• Comfort building from scratch and working independently; ability to move the brand forward through hands-on execution rather than delegation.
• Strategic thinking paired with craft excellence—ability to defend a point of view, listen to feedback, and adjust course when needed.

Nice to Have

• Experience designing for or within deep-tech, AI, or scientific organizations.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted design workflows and tools.
• Track record of evolving brand systems over time as a company scales.
