About the Role
Grit & Gravel is seeking a skilled, experienced, and creative Website Designer & Developer to join their growing web experience team. As a WordPress and Webflow Developer, you'll manage the full lifecycle of client websites—from maintenance and optimization to custom development and CRM integrations. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented developer who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and wants to work with a diverse range of complex WordPress and Webflow sites. This is a remote position perfect for developers with 5+ years of professional experience in WordPress and Webflow development.
Responsibilities
- Build, manage, and maintain a variety of WordPress and Webflow websites for senior living clients
- Implement client-requested changes including content updates, new pages/sections, design tweaks, and custom development
- Troubleshoot site issues and implement solutions quickly and effectively, proactively identifying potential user, device, and security vulnerabilities
- Perform regular updates to plugins, themes, and WordPress core while ensuring all sites remain secure, responsive, and optimized for speed
- Collaborate with project managers, designers, copywriters, and SEO strategists to deliver seamless client experiences
- Set up staging environments, manage deployments, monitor uptime and performance, and maintain backups across all hosted properties
- Recommend improvements for functionality, UX, scalability, and technical SEO implementation
Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years of professional experience with WordPress and/or Webflow development and maintenance (portfolio with 3-5 examples of impressive, complex WordPress sites built from scratch required)
- Proficiency with PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WordPress APIs, and page builder tools such as Elementor, WPBakery, or Gutenberg
- Advanced technical skills including child theme modification, custom theme development, plugin management, staging environments, cPanel/hosting platforms, and DNS/domain management
- Expert knowledge of technical SEO, site speed optimization, security best practices, advanced custom fields (ACF), custom post types, and analytics tools (Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Search Console)
- Strong ability to develop pages matching high-fidelity designs and create subsequent sections matching site aesthetics independently
- Excellent organizational, communication, and cross-team collaboration skills with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously and explain technical concepts to non-technical clients
- Solution-oriented mindset with proven problem-solving ability and experience working within established project management systems
Nice to Have
- Agency experience working with marketing or creative agencies
- Version control familiarity with Git or platforms like GitHub/Bitbucket
- UX/UI design skills
- Experience working with senior living owners and operators
- Platform experience with Zapier, ActiveDemand, Further, WelcomeHome CRM, or HubSpot
