About the Role

As an SEO/AEO Manager at Instawork in San Francisco, CA, you'll own the company's discoverability strategy across search engines and AI answer engines. This is a unique opportunity to write the playbook for how users find and choose Instawork—whether through Google Search, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, or whatever comes next. You'll report to the Head of Growth Marketing and work at the intersection of technical SEO expertise and AI-driven discovery, leading Instawork's organic acquisition strategy while the search and AI landscape rapidly evolves. This role is ideal for a hands-on builder who combines deep technical SEO fluency with genuine curiosity about emerging search technologies and AI visibility.

Responsibilities

• Own Instawork's organic acquisition strategy across SEO and GEO, setting goals for non-branded visibility and share of voice in AI answers within mid- and bottom-funnel, lead-generating conversations—and be accountable for hitting them
• Lead technical SEO of the Webflow site including crawlability, indexation, site architecture, internal linking, redirects, and site speed
• Build and execute Instawork's answer-engine strategy across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Google's AI surfaces by growing authority across review sites, industry publications, Reddit, Quora, and YouTube
• Execute a comprehensive backlink strategy that strengthens search authority and improves visibility in AI-powered discovery systems
• Direct the agent-led content strategy, developing a content roadmap that matches search and prompt intent while delivering on growth goals
• Define and instrument the measurement layer, tracking the funnel from organic and AI-referred discovery through to activation
• Own domain and technical health, working directly with Engineering on migrations, redirects, canonicalization, and localization structure

Requirements

• 1+ years of hands-on GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) experience across leading conversational assistants with strong SEO fundamentals; proven ability to test how AI assistants retrieve, cite, and act on content
• Deep technical SEO fluency including structured data and schema implementation, rendering and indexation troubleshooting, crawl analysis, and comfort in codebase to ship fixes yourself
• Proficiency with developer tools like Cursor, Replit, Zapier, and n8n to build and optimize technical solutions
• Hands-on expertise with Google Search Console, GA4, Screaming Frog, and platforms like Ahrefs or Semrush
• Demonstrated experience with at least one AI-visibility platform (Profound, Peec, Otterly, Scrunch) or custom-built tooling
• Technical mindset with proven ability to identify and resolve rendering or indexation problems at the root cause level

Nice to Have

• Experience optimizing for multiple AI answer engines and conversational search platforms
• Background working with Webflow sites and understanding of their technical architecture
• Track record of building and scaling content production using AI agents
