Website Maintenance Developer (Webflow, WordPress, Custom)
Job Description
About the Company
Avengr is a web design and digital marketing studio specializing in Webflow and WordPress development. Based in Franklin, Tennessee, they manage approximately 25 client websites on ongoing monthly care plans and are expanding their maintenance and support capabilities.
About the Role
Avengr is hiring a Website Maintenance Developer to take ownership of their client site portfolio, ensuring all 25+ websites remain live, fast, and fully updated. This is a Webflow and WordPress specialist role perfect for a developer who genuinely enjoys the operational side of web development—catching issues before they become problems, managing recurring maintenance tasks, and serving as the reliable backbone of the team. You'll work as an independent contractor on a flexible schedule with 25 hours per week to start, with potential to grow toward 30-40 hours as the team expands.
Responsibilities
- Manage the daily request queue including content updates, CMS items, blog posts, image swaps, team bios, and client requests
- Execute monthly care plan checks across all client sites: platform and plugin updates, form testing, broken link detection, image optimization, backups, and PageSpeed analysis
- Troubleshoot and resolve critical issues including errors, plugin conflicts, form delivery failures, DNS problems, and performance bottlenecks
- Monitor uptime, manage backups, and handle host transfers and domain migrations
- Implement technical SEO and AI search (AEO) improvements based on Ahrefs and HubSpot audit recommendations
- Proactively identify performance improvements and communicate recommendations to the team
- Document all tasks with clear write-ups and time entries in Asana or BugHerd for accurate client reporting
Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on experience building and maintaining client websites
- Strong Webflow expertise including CMS collections, components, interactions, publishing, hosting, and bandwidth management
- Advanced WordPress knowledge beyond the dashboard: staging-first updates, PHP version management, error log interpretation, backup restoration, and cross-host migrations
- Solid understanding of DNS, domains, SSL certificates, and email/form delivery (Cloudflare, registrars like GoDaddy and Namecheap, SPF/DKIM configuration)
- Hands-on experience with Claude Code or similar AI coding tools, with ability to explain changes and reasoning in client-friendly terms
- Professional written and spoken English with attention to detail in client-facing deliverables and CMS field naming
- Ability to maintain a consistent weekly schedule with at least 4 hours of overlap during 9am-5pm US Central time
- Proven track record of rapidly learning new platforms and tools
Nice to Have
- Experience with GitHub, Vercel, Cloudflare Workers, Supabase, Next.js, or headless CMS platforms like Strapi
- Proficiency with Google Tag Manager, GA4, Search Console, Ahrefs, and technical SEO best practices
- Prior support experience at a managed WordPress host or website care agency
- Familiarity with Asana, BugHerd, and Slack for project management and team communication
- Portfolio demonstrating full site builds with design sensibility (Figma to Webflow or Figma to WordPress)
- Experience with Shopify, Squarespace, or Wix
- Knowledge of Basin, Zapier, Make, HubSpot, Zoho, or GoHighLevel
- Google Workspace administration experience
Benefits & Perks
- Independent contractor role with hourly USD compensation based on experience
- Flexible growth potential from 25 hours per week initially toward 30-40 hours as the business scales
- Work on US Central time with scheduling flexibility for the Americas region
- Opportunity to work with diverse technology stack including Webflow, WordPress, Cloudflare, GitHub, Vercel, and more
- Finalists receive paid trial period before formal offer
